The park at Venkata Nagar will soon get a facelift with the government directing the Public Works Department to prepare a report to carry out improvement works.

The park, which was opened in 2007, has been a boon for children in residential areas of Venkata Nagar, Rainbow Nagar, Saram and Kamaraj Salai.

Lack of proper maintenance had caused damage to the play equipment and had now become out of bounds for children. Most of the play equipment is in a pathetic condition.

It is the only available open space in the area and residents use the track inside the park for morning walk. The walking track also needs repair, said a resident of Rainbow Nagar.

Speaker V. Vaithilingam, who represents the Kamaraj Nagar constituency and Public Works Department officials visited the playsite.

Mr. Vaithilingam held discussions with the Minister for Tourism Malladi Krishna Rao on the renovation project.

According to an official, the government was considering options including availing loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited or using funds available with the Tourism Department to renovate the park which was developed using funds from various departments when Mr. Vaithilingam was the Chief Minister.
