The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has planned an agitation on Thursday to protest the case booked against VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan for allegedly inciting communal violence. On Wednesday, State VCK secretary S. Pavanan met with the Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria to demand the case against the VCK chief be taken back, stating that it was filed under false pretences. If the case is not withdrawn, the cadres will stage a protest of Thursday, a member of the party said.
The VCK cadres are also alleging that the details of the case against their leader were kept hidden by the police.
According to the police, the case was filed following the protest led by Mr. Thirumavalavan in January this year. The case itself was filed after a complaint from the Pattali Makkal Katchi. A case has also been registered against PMK leaders J. Guru and R.K.R. Anandaraman for inciting communal violence during their rally. The cases against the VCK leader and PMK leaders were filed on the same day.
Even though the complaint against the VCK chief was given in January, the case was filed only after consultation with the Director of Prosecution. Since the consultations took some time, the case was filed late and also did not appear in the Daily Occurrence Report, the police said.
