VAT-related queries now on WhatsApp

The Commercial Taxes Department has launched a new facility where in public could pass on information and lodge their complaints on WhatsApp and through e-mail.

The dedicated WhatsApp mobile number 73958 98989 and e-mail idcomplaints.ctd@gmail.Com) is aimed at encouraging people to lodge complaints and share suggestions relating to VAT (Sales Tax).

Invoice mandatory

In a statement, G. Srinivas, Commissioner of CT said that as per the provisions of the Puducherry Value Added Tax Act, 2007 and Rules, 2007, it is mandatory for the dealers to issue invoice for every sale.

The invoice should contain name and address of the seller, registration number (TIN), invoice serial number, date, details of the goods sold, quantity, value, total amount and signature of person issuing the invoice.

If a dealer or merchant does not issue invoice or bill for purchase of goods, estimate slips are issued for purchases, bill / invoice given in white paper without mandatory details, bill / invoice without invoice number and TIN it can be brought to the notice of the department through the WhatsApp number or e-mail ID.

Customers could lodge complaint against the dealers by giving details of the dealer’s name and address and the issue thereof.

On illegal storage

Public could also share information on illegal storage and suspicious movement of goods, tax evasion, conducting business without registration to the Department to take action and safeguard public revenue.

Public could also share copies of high value invoices he said adding that the name, address, mobile number and e-mail id of the complainant would be kept confidential.
