November 25, 2014 11:44 am | Updated 11:44 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Leader of the Opposition V. Vaithilingam on Monday said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy should explain the steps taken to control the rising crimes in the Union Territory.

Token fast

After taking part in a token fast by local functionaries in Karikkilampakkam, Mr. Vaithilingam said, “Now there is no protection to people. Incidents of murder and thefts are continuously occurring in Embalam, Manaveli, and Bahour. Hence, the people are not able to live peacefully. There is no protection to the life of even former Minister M.M. Kandasamy.”

He demanded that the Chief Minister come out with a reassurance on this serious matter.

Local functionaries of Congress in Karikkilampakkam observed a one-day token fast demanding the immediate arrest of the unknown persons who allegedly made an attempt on the life of former Minister Mr. Kandasamy.
