The police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a worker of an arrack shop, on charges of murdering a 35-year-old man from Chennai.

According to police, the victim, Dinesh Kumar, had visited Puducherry along with two of his friends on August 6. He continued to stay in a lodge near the bus stand while his friends left for Chennai. Kumar had gone to an arrack shop and mortgaged his mobile phone for Rs.1,000 with a worker, Thulukanatham (33), to buy arrack. The victim later got a sum of Rs. 2,500 from a friend, an auto driver, to get back his phone.

However, Thulukanatham refused to give back the mobile, leading to an altercation. Thulukanatham and his friend Punniyakodi (25) took Kumar to a secluded spot and murdered him. The duo confessed to the murder. They were arrested and remanded in custody.
