The Pondicherry University, in association with the University of Sorbonne — Paris 1, is set to announce a twinning programme on law course shortly. A representative of the International Relations Department held preliminary discussions with the Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University Chandra Krishnamurthy here on Monday.

The universities will commence the twinning-programme from the next academic year. This follows Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chandra’s visit to the university, also known as ‘Paris 1’ in May and signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

S. Pannirselvame, Dean, School of Humanities and Registrar of the Pondicherry University, said: “Recently, we entered into an understanding with the Sorbonne University-Paris 1 to launch a degree in law in the newly started School of Law. As a follow up of the memorandum of understanding, a representative of the Paris University Prof. Sabine Monnier came down and held preliminary talks with our Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chandra here.”

Prof. Sabine Monnier will hold discussions with the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Coordinator of School of Law in order to finalise the joint degree programme which is to be launched from the academic year 2015-2016.

The syllabus, regulations and modalities of the course are to be finalised in two days and a high-level committee headed by the vice-president of International Relations Department Bonnisseau will be meeting the Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University on December 4.

Dr. Pannirselvame said, “Now the talks are progressing on the sponsorships, fee-structure and other modalities. A final shape should emerge later this week and we hope to formally announce the course soon.”
