Thousands of devotees took part in the car festival of Sri Thirukameshwarar-Kokilambigai temple in Villianur near here on Friday. The temple’s annual festival was celebrated in a grand manner by devotees. Lieutenant Governor A.K. Singh inaugurated the procession by pulling the rope of the car.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and Villianur MLA A. Namassivayam and Mangalam MLA S.V. Sugumaran participated in the celebrations.
The car went along the Mada streets. The police had made elaborate security arrangements in view of the festival.
Renovation of this ancient temple was completed recently at a cost of Rs.11.55 crore. It is one of the largest and important temples in the Union Territory that had been accorded a special place during the years of French rule.
