A devotee was crushed to death and 10 others were injured when the temple car of Sri Throwpathiamman temple in Kathirgamam capsized on Saturday.

The temple was renovated recently and the car festival was held on Saturday morning after a gap of 16 years.

When the car procession was proceeding near a street-corner which leads to the residence of outgoing Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, the car wheel stuck on a pit on the street. The car suddenly capsized due to overload and the devotees were caught under the car. Police said one Saravanan (30) was killed on the spot and 10 others were injured. The injured were rushed to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute at Kadirgamam.
