The transgender community was the focus group of various health awareness initiatives carried out as part of World Health Day celebrations hosted by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Alumni Association (GUILD) of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidhyapeeth University and Sagodarargal Community of Oriented Health Development (SCOHD).

About 65 transgenders were counselled on Hepatitis B infections and administered Hepatitis B vaccination. They were also provided basic oral health care services at the Dental College and Hospital.

Dr. Kishore, lecturer, highlighted the nexus between poor oral hygiene and diabetes. The awareness talk also focused on health promoting practices and well being.

The alumni of the Dental College sponsored the initiatives as part of their philanthropic activities. The programme was co-ordinated by the GUILD association and Sheethal Nayak, Director SCOHD society.
