Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Wednesday said she was “surprised” to hear about the government’s decision to buy 51% shareholding of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) in Hotel Pondicherry Ashok in Kalapet.

Responding to reports about the move by the government, Ms. Bedi told The Hindu , “no such matter has come to the Lt Governor’s office during my time so far. Under the rules, correspondence of this important kind ought to have been done by keeping the administrator’s office in the loop. This apparently has not been done.

“I am seeking a report from the Chief Secretary as to why he has allowed this to happen when he is duty bound to ensure that the rules of business are duly followed.”
