In an age of selfies, students of a neighbourhood school turned their camera to focus outwards and surprised themselves and others with the variety of images they came up with.
Students of the Mahatma Gandhi International School in Singrigudi were asked to take pictures through the year and when they had notched up quite a collection, organise a photography exhibition on their own.
Young shutterbugs went to town shooting animals, flora, silhouettes and scenic landscapes using cameras of their own or the equipment maintained at the school.
“The idea was to give them a realistic feel of life,” a school spokesperson said.
Recently, the students hosted an exhibition of about 200 of their photographs.
The special invitees to the show, Pranav Tyagi and Narayan Shankar, photography enthusiasts, could not help expressing their admiration for what the students had achieved. Later, the guests even shared a few tips on photography with the budding talents.
The school, which follows the CBSE pattern, plans to promote such events continuously to develop co-curricular skills and allow students to follow their passion. The launch of a photography club is also on the cards.
