A stone sculpture belonging to the 20th century that was found in the Thiruparkadal riverbed near Kaveripakkam has been brought to the Government Museum, Vellore and kept for public display on Sunday.

K. Saravanan, curator of the museum, said villagers, who were fishing in a pool of water, found a stone sculpture of a dog in the net on Saturday. The riverbed had been dug up, and water was stagnating at the spot.

“The villagers found the stone sculpture of Kalabairavar in the same spot. Following information, we went to the spot on Saturday evening, and brought the sculpture to the museum,” he said and added that the sculpture was about 100 years old. “The statue has eight hands, and is a fine piece of sculpture,” he said.
