Six arrested for stoning TNSTC buses on the ECR

The Villupuram district police on Sunday arrested six persons for damaging buses on the East Coast Road protesting against the manner of selection of the Congress Legislature Party leader and the new Chief Minister at a hotel here on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses from Puducherry to Chennai were stoned. Buses were stoned at Periyamudaliarchavady and Kottakuppam in Villupuram district limits on the East Coast Road.

The windshields were completely damaged the police said and added none of the passengers suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the Kalapet police have also registered cases against unidentified persons in connection with the incident. Cases have been registered against the accused under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (assault) read with 149 IPC and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act (PDPP Act).
