Signal for fishermen: The Port Department has hoisted distant cautionary signal one in Puducherry.

The Port Department on Sunday hoisted the flag denoting a ‘signal 1’ at the Puducherry port indicating formation of a low-pressure that could intensify into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.

The flag was raised after the alert was sounded by the Meteorological Department in Chennai about a low pressure area in central Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to move north-northeastwards and reach Bangladesh coast by May 30 afternoon.

The weather advisory called for hoisting distant cautionary “signal 1” at the Cuddalore Port.
