For those getting weary of the electronic dance music scene, the Department of Tourism in association with event management company Scene, has lined up an evening of good old retro music for the weekend.

SecSatPondy, a series of live music concerts, will get under way at 8 p.m. on Saturday, with performances by Highway69 from Bangalore, Sunny Side Boys from Tiruchi and Jay and Hari from Coimbatore. The open-air seafront Seagulls restaurant is the venue.

The evening will have Highway69 belting out hits from the likes of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Queen, Guns N' Roses and others.

Fans of country music need not feel left out as the Tiruchi band will play songs by Willie Nelson, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley and other Western singers.

Targeted at the weekend crowd, especially from Chennai and Bangalore, organisers hope the concerts re-energise the music scene in Puducherry.

“Right now, the music scene is a little isolated,” says Siddhartha from Scene. “It has been a while since we have had some good old country music concert here. We want to do a lot of good music, keep the music live and keep it going,” he adds.
