Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi has asked temple administrators to seek technical expertise for proper maintenance of temple ponds.

Making a weekend inspection of the Sri Angala Parameswari Amman temple at Muthialpet, Ms. Bedi advised the trustees of the Temple Board to seek expertise on the maintenance of the pond from institutions such as the Department of Science and Technology and French Institute of Pondicherry, which had done elaborate research on water preservation and conservation.

‘Desilt periodically’

Reiterating the importance of preserving temple tanks and to spread the rich heritage of the ancient temples in Puducherry, Ms. Bedi emphasised the need for periodic desilting and maintenance of the temple ponds to make the water potable and prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

The Lt. Governor also advised the Commissioner, Hindu Religious Institutions to have information on the temple heritage, displayed both in Tamil and English, to enable tourists and students to understand the history and significance of the temple.

A ‘Conference of Temple Trustees’ has been proposed at Raj Nivas during the second fortnight of June to share the best practices in temple management, Ms. Bedi said.
