The Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Orissa, Sachidanada Mohanty, who hails from the city, has been chosen to join President Pranab Mukherjee on a State visit to Luxembourg, Germany and Cyprus.

Mr. Mohanty will be part of a five-member delegation on the President’s special flight for the visit which has been scheduled from September 14 to 20.

An alumnus of Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, Mr. Mohanty, who earlier served the University of Hyderabad among other institutions, terms this development as a “rare opportunity for international education.”

The delegation will explore avenues for strengthening educational and cultural ties with the three nations. “I hope to gather enriching insights into educational policy and planning from the three nations for the benefit of India,” he said.

Mr. Mohanty, who savours his links with Puducherry, says he owes a lot to this historic town for the unique education it provided. “But for the international education and the cosmopolitan ambience of the city, I would not be where I am today,” he said.
