Puducherry's biggest batch of police constables ready for work

As many as 583 police constables, sporting bright red kepis, marched smartly at the Gorimedu Police grounds on Monday. The passing out parade of the 20 batch of recruits to the Puducherry police force saw the maximum number of constables being recruited, in the history of the police training school here.

They would be absorbed into various vacancies in Puducherry, Karaikal, Yanam and Mahe.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy who took the salute said around 100 women police constables would be recruited in the future.

Among the new recruits who passed out on Monday, eight were women.

The constables have undergone 12 month training, after selection based on physical test and written examinations.

The police training school, which also conducts refresher courses for various ranks of police personnel, has prepared them in shooting, traffic management, law and order and basic computer skills.

The Chief Minister, who awarded the best candidates of the batch, also announced that 430 home guards would be posted.
