Puducherry replaces Oulgaret in race for Smart City mission

August 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:25 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Wednesday announced that the Government had nominated Puducherry municipality in lieu of Oulgaret municipality to participate in the next round of competition for the Smart city mission.

The proposal for Puducherry municipality will be formulated and submitted to the Union Urban Development Ministry to participate in the next round of competition. Ms. Bedi said that the government was striving hard to bring Union Territory in the list of Smart Cities. Though Oulgaret municipality was nominated as one of the 100 Smart Cities under the Smart cities Mission, it could not make it to final list.

The government has nominated Puducherry in lieu of Oulgaret with a view to develop Puducherry as a tourism and heritage city. The Lt. Governor informed that Puducherry and Oulgaret municipalities had been included under AMRUT scheme for providing basic services.
