Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday said that the Government will earmark 33 percent reservation for women in Sub-Inspector posts in UT.

Addressing a meeting of Congress workers at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office here on 72nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he said this was in keeping with the policy that women should be extended reservation as visualised by Rajiv Gandhi.

Paying rich tributes to Mr. Gandhi, he said that the former Prime Minister was the champion of IT in the country and one could now hardly see a household without a computer. The former Prime Minister also envisaged a quota of 33 percent in municipal local bodies while AICC president Sonia Gandhi increased it to 50 per cent.

The government is keen that the dream of Rajiv Gandhi should be realised.

Pension

Mr. Narayanasamy said beneficiaries getting the old age pension and widow pension would be handed the monthly assistance through anganwadis. For beneficiaries who are more than 75 years old, the bank staff along with anganwadi workers would distribute the amount at their doorsteps, he said.

Law and Order in Puducherry is under control as could be seen with the increase in arrival of tourists to the city, he added.

Refuting the criticism of the AIADMK that the government had failed to measure up to the expectations of the people, he said that the government did not have a magic wand to do wonders in a single day.

Traders and businessmen are also witnessing brisk business and financial position of UT is also showing improvement, he said.
