Puducherry BJP leaders meet Amit Shah

Puducherry unit leaders of the BJP apprised the party’s national president Amit Shah of the political situation of the Union Territory, at a recent meeting in New Delhi. Puducherry unit president M.Visweswaran led the delegation comprising general secretary V.Saminathan and three office bearers and met Mr.Shah.

Mr.Visweswaran said, “Ahead of party’s national executive which is scheduled to be held shortly, the party high command wants to elicit views of office bearers in the Union Territory on various issues to strengthening the party at the grass root level.”

The leaders expressed their opinion on the strategies to be adopted for 2016 assembly elections.

Mr. Viweswaran added that among other subjects, the delegation also impressed upon the high command on the need for posting a permanent Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory.

At present, the Lieutenant Governor Andaman and Nicobar Islands A.K. Singh has been holding additional charge of the post here since July 17 last, replacing his predecessor Virendra Kataria.

The BJP leader said, “We were told to identify 10 to 15 potential seats where BJP can win easily. Based on the identification, we are going to concentrate our attention for the growth of our party. So far we have 43,000 members and want to increase to 50,000 members soon.”

Upon their invitation, Mr. Shah has agreed to visit Puducherry in May, he said.
