High drama unfolded in front of the Raj Nivas here on Thursday when a 50-year-old man along with his wife and children attempted to stage a dharna condemning the police for not acting on their complaint.

The family alleged that they were assaulted by their neighbour over a dispute. The family approached the police who they say were reluctant to receive the complaint.

Santharoopi, a resident of Kuyavarpalayam, along with his wife Hemalatha and two children walked to the Raj Nivas at around 1 p.m. and squatted in front of the premises taking the police personnel posted at the Raj Nivas unawares.

Santharoopi claimed that his neighbour Badrasalam, a retired head constable, had dumped construction rubble in front of his house.

“An argument ensued and the latter’s son along with his friends assaulted us. Though we approached the police they refused to receive the complaint and turned us away,” he said.

The family claimed that they had come to the Raj Nivas after failing to get any help. On information police personnel from the Grand Bazaar police station rushed to the scene and removed the family.
