Plus Two pass percentage dips in Puducherry, Karaikal

Eight govt. schools post 90% and above; CM vows to boost standard

The overall pass percentage in Class 12 examination has come down in both Puducherry and Karaikal regions. The overall pass percentage, including Puducherry and Karaikal regions, is 86.68 — a percentage point less when compared to previous year.

Puducherry region has recorded pass percentage of 87.83 this year, which is 0.25% less compared to last year and Karaikal region has secured a pass percentage of 80.46, which is 5.42% less when compared to the previous year.

Chief Minister V. Narayansamy told presspersons here on Friday morning that nearly 13,508 students out of 15,583, who appeared for the Class 12 examination, passed.

“This is 1 per cent less when compared to the last year results,” he said and added that the number of boys and girls who cleared the examination was 5,994 and 7,514 respectively.

Out of the 15,583 students who appeared for the examination, 7,197 were boys and 8,386 girls.

The Chief Minister said that nearly 36 private schools had secured 100% pass results and eight government schools have achieved more than 90% pass results.

He added that the pass percentage in government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions is 73.70 (3.30% less than previous year). While in Puducherry region alone, the pass percentage in government schools is 73.70 (2.44 more than previous year) and Karaikal recorded 73.70 percentage (6.23% less than the previous year).

Since the list of rank holders were not announced, the education department had released the number of students who had scored centum in each subject. The includes two students in Physics, 15 in Chemistry, six in Biology, 41 in Computer Science, 44 in Mathematics, two in History, 84 in Commerce, 63 in Accountancy, 11 in Economics and 33 in Business Maths.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said the government would do everything to improve the quality of education in government schools. Unlike the previous year, the education department did not reveal the complete details of Class 12 examination results.
