The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), which took strong objection to the decision of Tamil Nadu government to release the convicts of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, staged demonstration at two places in Puducherry on Thursday.
There was a report that some of the agitators burnt pictures of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and raised slogans against her, stating that she had overstepped her power to gain political mileage in view of Lok Sabha elections.
A large number of protestors took part in the agitations held near Raja Theatre and by Rajiv Gandhi statue. A.V. Subramanian, president, PCC said that Tamil Nadu government’s the decision would set a bad precedent. The Chief Minister had failed to understand that the convicts were involved in the case of assassination of a former Prime Minister. Moreover, Tamil Nadu had no jurisdiction to set them release from jail, he said.
He added that the highly condemnable action would not good for Tamil Nadu.
