More than 12,000 youths from seven districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry took part in the army recruitment rally, which began here on July 4.
According to officials, around 1,800 candidates would go through the final process of selection in the last week of July.
Brigadier S.B. Sajjan, Deputy Director General (Recruiting), said: “Of the 12,000 candidates who turned up, 5,000 qualified for the run. The selection process is still on. At the end, we may be able to get 1,500-2,000 candidates for the final written examination.”
“In the past, the response from Puducherry youth has been poor. This is why we came to Puducherry to give more youths an opportunity to participate in the rally. In fact, we offer more vacancies to youths from Puducherry than others.”
Brigadier Sajjan said there was no interference in the selection process. When a candidate passed through a stage, every detail was uploaded on the computer to avoid human error or interference.
“To carry out the selection procedure, we have very senior officers from different areas other than where the candidates are being recruited. We also have independent representatives from the headquarters who are here to witness the process.”
