N.Rangasamy to meet PM soon

The CM will urge the PM to extend incentives to existing and proposed industries in the Union Territory.

Chief Minister N.Rangasamy said on Tuesday that he would shortly approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a plea to extend incentives to the existing and proposed industries in the Union Territory.

Wrapping up the discussion on the motion of thanks to Lieutenant Governor’s address, the Chief Minister Mr. Rangasamy listed the steps taken by the government to attract new industries and to establish a special economic zone. Mr. Rangasamy said several industries would have continued in Puducherry had the previous United Progressive Alliance Government at Centre extended incentives. He said the government had approached then Union Finance Minister P.Chidambaram for extension of incentives and to revive concessions to attract more investors.

“I will reiterate the plea when I meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said .

Mr. Rangasamy also assured of steps to ensure that Puducherry would be free from the frequent power cuts and low voltage in a year’s time.

On the welfare front, he said around 4,000 youth got employment so far for the last three years.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that Rs.41.7 crore was allotted to meet the fees of students who were admitted through CENTAC during 2013-14. He also added the government has taken steps to establish new colleges besides allotting more funds to set up new medical facilities to the public.

He added that the Government planned to construct houses for rehabilitation of fishermen and their families at a cost of Rs 35 crore and Rs. one crore soon would also be sanctioned under the MLA Local Area Development scheme. After the Chief Minister’s reply, the House passed by voice vote the motion of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address.
