U. Niranjan, Commissioner, Goods and Service Tax and Central Excise, has called upon the traders to utilise the opportunity and tap the growth potential that arises with the rollout of the GST.

Speaking at a commemorative meeting with the members of various associations of trade and industry organised by the Central Excise Commissionerate here on Saturday, he urged the trade and industry to approach the GST law in a proper perspective and not to entertain apprehensions about the new law.

Traders should not worry about the new tax environment as it will prove to be beneficial to the society as a whole in the long run.

The Central Excise department will always be available to assist the traders in facilitating a smooth transition, he said.

An interactive group designed both for mobile and PC users on the Telegram app platform was also launched by Mr. Niranjan. A Google group designed for PC users with the address googlegroups@puducherryGST was also launched for sharing of information.

Traders can also post their grievances, queries and difficulties on these platforms on the commissionerate website http://www.pondycentralexcise.gov.in The department will seek to reach trade through such technology drive interfaces, he said.

K.A. Shenbagarajan, president, Chambre de Commerce, Pondicherry, R.D. Shrikanth, Chairman, CII Puducherry participated.
