A new batch of nurses at Jipmer took the Nightingale pledge as they prepared themselves for a career of serving the sick with compassion.

In all, 75 nurses took part in the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony at the Probationer Nurses of College of Nursing, Jipmer. This was the ninth batch being inducted into the B.Sc. nursing programme at the college.

Addressing the student nurses, M.J. Kumari, Vice-Principal (Principal In-charge), College of Nursing, Jipmer, lauded them for having chosen a noble and at the same time challenging profession.

P. Vasantha, Nursing Superintendent, Jipmer, administered the Nightingale pledge. Dr. J. Balachander, Medical Superintendent, Jipmer, emphasised the importance of essential qualities that a nursing students should inculcate such as commitment, sincerity, dedication with special reference to team spirit and hard work in order to achieve success.

Jipmer is constantly going higher up the ladder of medical health care and this is worthy of much appreciation, such medical institution hold a significant place in our society for serving mankind, he said.

Dr. Ms. S. Kalavathi, Chief Guest, Principal, Rani Meyammai College of Nursing, Annamalai University, highlighted the important qualities required by a Nurse. She asked the nursing students to develop characteristics like emotional stability, critical thinking and problem solving in their professional life.
