Congress leader and former Union Minister for State V. Narayanasamy on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the recent murder of All India NR Congress functionary Velayudham in Reddiyarpalayam as Chief Minister N. Rangasamy allegedly had close links with both the victim and the accused in the case.

Addressing reporters here, Mr. Narayanasamy said Velayudham who was known to be close to the Chief Minister and was an accused in a murder case involving another party member had met Chief Minister and was closeted with him for about 45 minutes a couple of days before he was murdered.

The Congress leader alleged that the murder could not have happened without the knowledge of Mr. Rangasamy as the prime accused, Gopi, was related to the Chief Minister.

“In such a situation, there are valid fears that the Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio, may prevent the truth from coming out to protect his relative,” Mr. Narayanasamy alleged.

Calling for an impartial probe through the central agency, Mr. Narayanasamy said he had written a letter to Lieutenant-Governor A.K.Singh in this regard. If the Governor does not recommend a CBI probe, Mr. Narayanasamy said he would approach the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

On former Congress leader G.K.Vasan’s move to launch a separate party, Mr. Narayanasamy said Mr. Vasan should have stayed in the Congress and worked for strengthening the party as it was going through a rough patch.
