Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party Leader V. Narayanasamy on Saturday made his maiden speech in the Assembly on Saturday. He appealed to the opposition parties to point out any shortcomings of the government and said it was ready to rectify it.

Although Mr. Narayanasamy was a member of Parliament for 23 years and had twice held the post of Union Minister of State, he was never an MLA in the Union Territory.

MLAs thanked

In the opening remarks of his maiden speech, Mr. Narayanasamy thanked all the party MLAs who had elected him as CLP leader to become the Chief Minister.

He also thanked the people of Union Territory of Puducherry who had voted the Congress-DMK alliance to power.

“We have made many promises to the people in the run-up to elections. With full co-operation of all the MLAs, we will fulfil all of them,” said Mr. Narayanasamy.

Mr. Narayanasamy said, “According to the tradition, in Puducherry, politics exists only during elections. It is only service to people later on. Opposition parties should not be foes. They should strongly support the ruling party in all its endeavours and not blindly oppose .”

“If the Opposition points out any shortfall, we are ready to rectify it. People have given us an opportunity and we will put it to good use ,” said Mr. Narayanasamy.

The Chief Minister added that the Union Territory could prosper only with assistance of Union Government and asked the Speaker V.Vaithilingam to allot equal time to both ruling and Opposition.
