Around 850 people participated in the ‘Mini-Marathon’ on Sunday held by Jipmer, in association with the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town.

The marathon held as part of the institution’s Golden Jubilee celebrations aimed to raise awareness about tuberculosis and improve cure at the community level.

The marathon which was open to everyone drew a good response from the Jipmer community and the public.

The participants began their run from the Jipmer ground up to Muruga theatre and back to the Jipmer campus.

T.S. Ravikumar, director, Jipmer, flagged off the marathon. He said that the TB-free campaign would target the UT of Puducherry, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts.

“Lung diseases will become the second leading cause of mortality in India by 2020. It is time now to stem this epidemic, starting with the TB campaign,” he said.
