Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi will organise a massive tree plantation exercise in various parts of Puducherry on August 26.

The tree plantation exercise would be held in partnership with various students, NCC, civil society organisations, NGOs and local community, said a press release.

On Sunday, she cycled to Velrampet Lake along with Raj Nivas staff to get a first-hand account of the condition of the lake. She impressed upon the need to strengthen the land bund by planting saplings around the lake to make it a green zone.

On August 26, plantation of saplings around the bund would be taken up. The perimeter of the bund would be divided into small stretches and handed over to the women to nurture the saplings.
