The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) has launched an app ‘SPOT Eye’ for eyelid injuries, which is said to be the first in the country. Dr. S.C. Parija, Director, Jipmer launched the app in the presence of Medical Superintendent Dr. Badhe and Deputy Director Dr. Patro.

Dr. Parija said the purpose of this app is to help patients with eyelid injuries to classify and manage them properly as Jipmer receives many such cases regularly in the casualty. “There is no classification system for eyelid injuries in medical literature. This is the first classification of its kind developed by Jipmer, he said.

He further added that an ‘App Committee’ will be formed to encourage faculty and residents of Jipmer to develop more apps for better patient care. The app was developed by a team of doctors from the Department of Plastic Surgery with the help of software engineers — Prem Prakash Sahoo and Balakrishna V from Bengaluru.

The app was first developed by Dr. Devi Prasad Mohapatra from Department of Plastic Surgery in the form of classification which was published in indexed journal.

To make it easy to use and user-friendly, it was converted into an app. It is launched on android platform commonly used by all in order to make it free of cost and easy to use.

Officer in-charge of Patent Cell of Innovation Unit of Jipmer Ravi Kumar Chittoria further added efforts would be taken to apply for patent through Jipmer Innovation Unit.

Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery Dinesh Kumar S informed that subsequently this app will be revised with more information and clinical photographs. The programme of release of this app was attended by faculty, staff and students of Jipmer.
