Thieves broke into a house at Natraj Nagar in Muthupillaipalayam and took away 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver articles and silk saris. Police sources said the theft came to light on Monday morning when the property owner Maragatham returned home.

Maragatham was staying alone in the house and her elder son Nagaraj lives in France. Maragatham had gone to a relative’s house on Sunday. When she returned home on Monday morning, she was shocked to find the front door broken open. The burglars had ransacked the steel cupboard and took away gold jewellery, 1 kg of silver articles and 10 silk saris. Fingerprint experts were pressed into service.
