A resident of Kalapet in Puducherry, Dr. Siddhant J. Thampi has topped the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) Postgraduate Medical Exams 2018. Though he had secured admissions to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, Rishikesh and PGI Chandigarh, Jipmer in Puducherry last year, he wrote NEET for the second time to pursue the subject he loved.

“I wanted to pursue PG in General Medicine at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). I decided to write NEET again and got through. I will be joining the course in May,” said Dr. Thampi.

A MBBS graduate from PIMS, he prepared for the entrance test without attending any of the coaching classes. “I believe in self-study and for me, coaching classes are a distraction from preparation for examination,” he says.

Dr. Thampi was the Best Outgoing student of MBBS, PIMS and secured first rank in final professional MBBS from PIMS, batch 2011-2017. He has won many gold medals in General Surgery with a first rank in Pondicherry University examinations, Braunwald Prize in Cardiology, Dr. Jacobs Gold Medal in Orthopedics, KE Abraham Gold medal in General Medicine, Osler prize in Internal Medicine and best young clinician award, Dr. Velaths Gold Medal in Physiology, Dr. Ramesh K. Rao Gold Medal in Pathology, Nelson Gold Medal in Paediatrics.

He also won the first prize and gold nedal at International Collegiate Medical Quiz Neurobytes Championships at Mallaca, in Malaysia.
