Hundreds witness ‘Sathabhisekam’ of Kanchi Acharya in Puducherry

The event was conducted to commemorate the 80th Jayanthi celebrations of Jayendra Sarawathi.

Large number of devotees witnessed the ‘Sathabhisekam of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Sarawathi on Sunday.

The event was conducted to commemorate the 80{+t}{+h}Jayanthi celebrations of the seer.

The ceremonies were hosted by Janakalyan Sri Sankara Seva Sangam and devotees in Puducherry.

At the Sankara Vidyashramam School, Odiampet, the festivity commenced with the Chandramouliswara pooja by junior seer Vijayendra Saraswathi.

At a specially erected pandal, the Junior pontiff Vijayendra performed the swarna vilva kanakabhishekam to the pontiff Jayendra Saraswathi amidst vedic chants by priests. The abhisekam with flowers also performed.

Several dignitaries including Department of Hindu Religious Institutions Director Thillaivel, Vice- Chancellor of Pondicherry University Chandra Krishnamurthy, Women’s Commission Chairman Sundari, Puducherry Public Prosecutor K.Shanmugam, Bharatiya Janata Party Puducherry unit president and MLA, M. Visveshwaran and its general secretary V.Saminathan, Industrialist Dharmaraj and several others participated and received blessings from the seers.

Kanchi seer Jayendra Sarawathi announced that the mutt will send a cheque of Rs.10 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund towards relief to people affected by the earthquake in Nepal and India recently.

The seer also urged the devotees to donate generously for the cause.

Kanchi seers are camping in Puducherry until Wednesday.
