A non-profit organisation will organise a Republic Day heritage ride to Puducherry on Saturday.

The ‘cycling yogis’ include people from various walks of life, with a common passion for cycling and respecting heritage.

M. Ramanujar said, “Since its inception in 2012, we have taken keen interest in promoting the importance of our heritage and cycling. As a part of the endeavour, we have been organising heritage ride commemorating the Republic Day, the World Heritage Day and the Madras Day.”

Notable landmarks covered during these rides include Mamallapuram, Pulicat, Royapuram, Anna Salai, Perambur, Chepauk, Triplicane, Mylapore and Fort St.George.

To commemorate the 66th Republic Day, the ‘cycling yogis’ propose to visit the heritage sites located in Puducherry.

The ride starts at 6 am from Novotel & IBIS Hotel, Old Mamallapuram Road, and passes through ECR to reach Puducherry by afternoon.

The cyclists will be riding along interior Puducherry and covering landmarks such as Bharthiyar Illam, Ranga Pillai Mansion, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Sacred Heart Basilica, French War Memorial, Old Lighthouse and Aayi Mandapam .

Around 60 cyclists have signed up for the event and this ride is being held with the support of Puducherry Tourism.
