As part of the ongoing national cleanliness campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Oulgaret Municipality hosted a multi-specialty medical camp for more than 300 staff members on Thursday, in which a large number of employees were found to have hypertension, diabetes, defective vision, skin diseases and respiratory disorders.

The day-long camp was conducted by a team of doctors led by Dr. Zile Singh, Head, Department of Community Medicine, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, following a request from the Municipality Commissioner M.S. Ramesh, said a press release from the institute. The departments of General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Dermatology and Community Medicine participated. The employees have been referred to medical centres for follow-up and detailed check-up.

All employees were immunised against tetanus, and blood sugar and ECG investigations were carried out. Medicines were supplied for free by PIMS, said the release. The team from the Department of Community Medicine imparted health education on personal hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, avoidance of tobacco and alcohol, and prevention and control of communicable diseases.
