Government staff at the Chief Secretariat on Wednesday undertook a pledge against elder abuse on the occasion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

V. Candavelou, Development Commissioner, administered the ‘Fighting against Elders Abuse Day Pledge in the first floor of the Chief Secretariat.

All staff members of the Chief Secretariat attended and took the pledge, which read: “I solemnly pledge that I will spend specific time with the Senior Citizens. I will give respect to their feelings. I will take care of their health. I will not use harsh words against them. I will listen to their problems promptly and attend. In no way I will abuse the elders both mentally and physically. I will rise to the occasion whenever abuse happens against the elders and resolve them. I will give preference to the elders in public places and I further affirm that I will take care of the elders with dedication.”
