Four students win innovation awards

They will receive ₹1 lakh fund from the Department of Science and Technology

L.R. Ravindranath, S. Abilashvaran, S. Aravindh and M. Logesh, second-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering students of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College received the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award 2018 at the Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FINE) from President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan and Union Minister for Science, Technology and Earth Sciences Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi recently.

Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) has established three national awards for innovative student projects in engineering, biotechnology, agriculture, pharmacy, material science and other applied technological domains. The students will also receive a fund of ₹1 lakh from the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.

As many as 44 projects out of a total of 17,000 projects submitted by various colleges were awarded the prize. M. Dhanasekaran, chairman-cum-managing director felicitated the students and the guide S. Anbukumar, Professor and Head, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Achievers honoured at engineering college

‘Fruition 18,’ - an event to appreciate achievers, was organised by Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology here recently. M. Dhanasekaran, Chairman and Managing Director of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust presided over the function.

In his special address, R. Venkateswaran, Regional HR Head, Tata Consultancy Services, talked about the four important journeys the young engineers have to track while stepping into the corporate world. The journey of spirit of participation to spirit of excellence, journey of transition from systematic learning to continuous learning, journey from hard/conceptual skills to soft/life skills and the journey towards continuous process of re-skilling.

V.S.K. Venkatchalapathy, Director-cum-principal of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, called upon the students to do things with complete dedication, involvement and right attitude.

The students should respect and honour their parents and teachers who will always be the reason behind their success, he said.

R. Radhika, Campus Recruitment Head – Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, TCS, called upon the students to follow the mantra of discipline, rigour, intent and passion. S. Malarkkan, college Principal welcomed the gathering.

As many as 342 offer letters were distributed to the students who got placements in companies such as TCS, Virtusa, Zoho, Kaar, Suresoft, MRF, HDFC-AMC, Just Dial, VVDN, OFS, Infiniti Software etc.

Inter-university hockey tournament held

The Tamilnadu State-level Inter University Hockey Tournament for men and Women (2017-18) was organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of Annamalai University in association with the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) here recently.

V. Thiruvalluvan, Dean, Faculty of Indian Languages and Syndicate Member, Annamalai University, inaugurated the tournament. A. Shanmugam, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Marine Sciences, Annamalai University, welcomed the gathering.

As many as 20 teams competed in the tournament.

Campus placement

As many as seven students of Venkateswara College of Education, a constituent college of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust were selected during campus placements in reputed schools in Tamil Nadu.
