August 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:52 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Tension gripped Karasur on Monday when the car of the former MLA P. Karthikeyan was attacked.

P. Karthikeyan represented the Ossudu constituency in the last Assembly on All India NR Congress ticket. He had contested as an independent candidate unsuccessfully in this year’s Assembly elections as his party denied him the ticket.

Mr. Karthikeyan was going in his car from his residence at Thondamanatham towards Karasur. When the vehicle neared Karasur junction, some persons threw stones at it. When the driver tried to intervene, he was attacked. But they fled within minutes after the attack. Tension prevailed in the area as supporters of Mr. Karthikeyan demanded action against the attackers.

A case was lodged alleging that the attack was perpetrated on him by a political party. Sedharapet Police registered a case and are investigating.
