Five held for selling lottery tickets

Police on Friday arrested five persons involved in illegal sale of lottery and seized cash amounting to ₹28,260 and five mobile phones.

Police sources said that following information on the sale of illegal lottery tickets, a team led by Lawspet inspector Nagarajan laid a trap and arrested Chandru, 27, Saravanan alias Jagadesan, 42, both from Karuvadikuppam, Diwakaran, 52, of Lawspet, Sivaraj, 21, of Villianur and Baskar alias Murugan, 37, of Pakkamudaiyanpet in Puducherry.

Kerala lottery

Police said that the accused were selling Kerala lottery tickets using mobile phones.

Their modus operandi was to allow people to select three numbers using the mobile phones and send the list of numbers selected by their customers to an agent. All the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime.

A case of cheating and forgery and sections of The Lottery Regulation Act, have been booked against the accused in Lawspet police station.

Further investigations are on.
