M.Ilango, Chairperson, National Fisherfolk Forum on Tuesday informed that arrangements have been made to make available battery-run three-wheelers for fisherwomen at subsidised rates.

In a press statement, he said vehicles for the fisherwomen had been designed by an IIT-Mumbai professor.

“The Central government, under the Skill India Programme, has approved the proposal to provide these vehicles on subsidy. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission has come forward to extend support to the poor, self-employed fisherwomen,” he said.

Mr. Ilango added that the National Fisherfolk Forum is striving to provide the vehicles at a subsidised rate through the National Fisheries Development Board and the State Fisheries Development Corporation.

On November 24

“As a first step, nearly 20 fisherwomen would be given vehicles on November 24. The beneficiaries would be provided 65% of the cost as subsidy, while they can avail 30% as bank loan and pay 5%,” he said.

Fisherfolk from Puducherry and Karaikal can send applications to Chairperson, National Fisherfolk Forum, 168, Subbaiah Salai, Railway Station Road, Puducherry – 01.
