In a significant move, the Puducherry government has reconstituted the Fee Committee and Admission Committee for the purpose of fixing the fee structures and overseeing the admission process in various unaided private professional colleges of the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The new regulations are called the Puducherry Private Professional Educational Institutions (Provisions of Reservation, Admission of Students and Fixation of Fees) (First Amendment) Regulations, 2014. The Education Department issued an order in this regard.
A retired judge of Madras High Court heads the Fee Committee for medical courses, while a charted accountant and a representative of the Medical Council of India are the members.
The Health Secretary is the member-secretary.
Likewise, the Fee Committee for Engineering and Technical Courses is headed by a retired judge of Madras High Court while a chartered accountant and a representative of All India Council for Technical Education are the members. In this mechanism, the Education Secretary is the member secretary.
Admissions committees for professional courses will be headed by a retired judge of Madras High Court and a doctor of eminence is to be nominated as a member while Health Secretary is the Member Secretary to the Admission Committee for medical courses. An engineer of eminence is to be nominated as member and Education Secretary is the Member-Secretary to Admission Committee for engineering and technical courses.
