Electricity Minister T. Thiagarajan has sought the Union Government to expedite the construction of the new 230 KV line from Neyveli to Karaikal.

Mr. Thiagarajan took part in a conference of the Power, Renewable Energy and Mines Ministers of States and Union Territories held at Guwahati in Assam, on April 9 and 10 under the presidentship of Union Minister of State for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal.

Speaking at the conference, Electricity Minister Mr. Thiagarajan urged the Union Ministry to expedite the erection of the new 230 KV line from Neyveli to Karaikal by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited so as to bring the Karaikal region under the Regional Energy Accounting of Southern region.

He also sought the Union Ministry to accord an early approval for the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) being submitted by the Electricity Department under the new schemes introduced by the Government of India such as Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jothi Yojna (DDUGJY) at the earliest.

Further, Mr. Thiagarajan said under the IPDS scheme, for small networks like those in the Union Territory of Puducherry, the sub-transmission voltage level may be considered as 110 KV level instead of 66/33 KV so that the full benefits of the scheme could reach smaller States and Union Territories.
