Ex-MP lashes out atgovt. over NEET row

Kannan says Narayanasamy govt.’s stand was disappointing

August 25, 2017 12:06 am | Updated 12:06 am IST - Puducherry

The former Rajya Sabha member P. Kannan on Thursday alleged that Puducherry government has meted out injustice to students over the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) for medical admission.

The Puducherry government’s stand on the NEET examination has led to the disappointment among parents and students.

“This has exposed the double standards of the government,” he said.

No clarity

In a press statement, he alleged that Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has never taken a clear stand with regard to the NEET.

“Initially, he pretended to oppose NEET based selection for professional courses.

“After his visit to Delhi, he promised that Puducherry will be exempted from NEET. But why did he allow the counselling to be held in the interim?

Undue haste

“He could have waited for the court order like the Tamil Nadu government,” he said.

“The government should take steps to improve the quality of education provided to the students in government schools,” he said.
