The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has directed banks to freeze the accounts of Pondicherry Municipality for not submitting records related to the employees in the civic body.

In a statement, Regional P.F. Commissioner S.K. Manjunath said the municipality was duty bound to ensure compliance in respect of daily wage, casual/contract workers who otherwise are not in receipt of any provident fund or pension benefit on the part of permanent employees.

The High Court had directed the municipality to produce all documents before the inquiry officer of the EPFO.

“Due to non-appearance and non-production of record, all its bank accounts have been frozen under section 7A (2) of the Act read with section 32 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 by the EPFO authorities in order to enforce the attendance and compelling for production of records before the inquiry authority,” the statement said.
