Schoolchildren from pre-nursery to high school eagerly lined up to get their share of eggs for lunch in government schools across Puducherry.

After The Hindu published a report titled ‘Eggs vanish from the plate as allocation is cut’ on July 8, the Department of School Education has started providing eggs twice a week in the mid-day meal to the government schools. While a few schools received the eggs on Monday, a few others got it on Tuesday. The department has ensured that the government schools in rural and urban Puducherry are provided with eggs for lunch twice a week. The children were not served eggs with their meals in the last one month.
