Criminal charges to be filed against policemen in Puducherry

December 25, 2014 08:31 am | Updated 08:31 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The police will be filing criminal charges against a few policemen who were identified by victims of a child prostitution racket.

According to a top police official, “the victims identified some of the police personnel during an identification parade. We have already filed the charge sheet against the main accused and will be filing the supplementary charge sheet against the police personnel identified by the victims”.

It may be recalled that the Madras High Court had directed the Puducherry Superintendent of Police to conduct a test identification parade of police officers through videoconferencing.

The child prostitution surfaced in May with the rescue of four minor girls.

The case was investigated by the CBCID. Eight policemen, including two Inspectors have already been suspended by the Inspector-General of Police Praveer Ranjan in connection with the incident.
