Counselling to begin on June 20 in Puducherry

The counselling for admission into professional courses in the Union Territory is set to commence from June 20 here. The Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC), which is the nodal agency for admissions, decided to release rank list by June 16.

Results, rank list

“Starting from the current academic year (2016-17), CENTAC will publish results of all selected candidates with photographs for all categories. Even rank list will be published with photographs of candidates,” the Chairman of CENTAC and Education Secretary G. Ragesh Chandra told The Hindu.

Submission of on-line applications to CENTAC for various courses except MBBS & BDS began on May 17. For MBBS and BDS it began on May 30.

Last date for submission of applications was June 10. Candidates from the Union Territory of Puducherry are eligible for seats in government colleges and seats allotted in self-financing colleges under government quota. Candidates of other States are eligible only for select courses in government colleges but not for seats offered under government quota in self-financing colleges.

Education Secretary Mr. Chandra said, “We will release the rank list by June 16 and plans are on to commence counselling on June 20.”

The CENTAC also announced that the seat matrix in government institutions and government quota medical seats in self-financing colleges will be decided at a meeting of administrators of those colleges which will be held on Monday under the chairmanship of Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao.

Admission criteria

The CENTAC had announced criteria for admissions. One of the conditions is that the candidate or whose parent or guardian should have been residing continuously in UT for at least five years immediately preceding the date of application.

Candidates whose parents are Central/State Government servants, Defence Personnel, Central Paramilitary Forces are eligible provided they have serving in the UT for at least three years prior to the last date of submission of application.
